Radius arm bushing cause of grinding/vibration sound?
#1
Had a mystery vibration/grinding sound for couple weeks. Never consistent when it would occur and never could find the reason for it.
About 2 miles from the house it came and only went away when I drove under 30mph. Called the whole family to join me in the search
under my 1985 Bronco. My wife said that rubber thing is broken....here is what I found at the end of the passenger side radius arm.
Do you agree this could be the culprit? Replacement comes in tomorrow and should know for certain.

It looks like you are in the right direction. if not the problem they most likely contributed to some noise.
Stupid hurts when it catches up, and it WILL catch up!

Well the new bushings are on and the grinding continues.....either u joint or wheel bearings......need time, few specialty tools, and some cash.Maybe next week.Confusedhrug:

Wheel does not shake holding top and bottom of tire, but grabbing at 3 O'clock and 9, it does shake side to side. Maybe ujoint, need to see if it has play in it.

I wouldn't be so concerned about u joint. If it's rocking while ur holding 3 &9 o'clock pos...sounds like a tie rod end is shot...does the grind lessen with brakes applied? Grinding get worse while turning? Or grinding get worse while braking? What yr bronco? Manual or auto hubs?

1985 body with a 1987 front end. Grind lessons when brake applied or coast slower than 25mph and stops below 20mph. Manual hubs, same scenario in 2x4 and 4x4. There is no grinding when using the brakes. Would tie rods make a "oh my God, what is that grinding noise"?
Thanks for your help.

No, but if the noise kinda goes away when braking.. I'm leaning towards wheel bearings. I bet the brake pads are trying to make rotor run truer. Check bearings first. If they not slap wore out, they probably need repacking hth
