Ok at a sticking point here as I picked up a tool at autozone to pull the wheel seals out, didn't have anything to attach to slide hammer just some tool that had hooks on each side so you could try to leverage them out and all it is doing is bending, so if you have any ideas or suggestions to try I am game. Now that finals are over I will have more time to try a bunch of different stuff if this cold doesn't hold me down.

Let it bend. It will come out. Use caution so as not to damage the thin metal of the axle tube that the seal sits against. A claw type puller works well but the slide is quickest. The seal OD is just rusted to the housing and will be destroyed upon removal. Give it hell.

Problem is the tools is bending not the seal. Gonna stop by Oriely's to see if they have something for the slide hammer today.

Well finally got the seals out of the housing found a tool that connects to the slide hammer that pulled it out. Also got the backing plates and axles back on and bolted up with new retaining plate and bolts. Got some areas to correct painting wise on the backing plates. But now I can focus on moving wheel cylinders over and getting lines routed. Once that is done I can get the axle back under the bronco hopefully this weekend maybe tomorrow if all goes well be dropping bronco to the ground again.

Well finally got the brake lines and wheel cylanders installed on the rear axle also put the nex axle breather bolt and extended rear brake line on.

But when I was blasting the axle had a brain fart and din't clean up the plates on top of the leaf springs so need to blast and paint those and then the axle will be ready to go back under the bronco.

Why not invest in a double flaring tool and cut those brake lines to length? It'd look a lot better without those loops of material floating around.

You can borrow most double flaring tools from Advance Auto or O'Riellys. With a lil bit of practice you can become a pro. I did all mine on my old 76 and after a few failures I became very good at cutting and flaring. As long as it doesn't leak you are good.

Maybe he is trying to increase the fluid capacity of his system via additional line Wink like NASCAR folks do with fuel!

I agree, that looks horrible. Surely you slaved those long lines on there for testing purposes until you came to a decision whether or not to purchase the correct lines from a vendor or fabricate them yourself.

Double flaring tools are pretty cheap. The ones you rent are usually abused and worn out unless you get lucky and, subsequently, they will not perform as well.

Follow the directions step by step.

A straight cut is key. Refrain from using a hack saw if possible and use care if utilizing a tube cutter. I prefer a cutoff wheel. Use a flat file to make it perfectly true, if needed, then ever so slightly chamfer the end. If you don't have a deburring tool, a small pocket knife or scribe should do the trick.

If you have coated lines, you will want to sand the coating from the area that resides inside the vice to prevent slipping.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO MAKE SURE THE FITTING IS ON THE TUBE BEFORE YOU FLARE!!!

Once the flares are made, nothing should be oblong, offset, or cracked.

Purchase an extra length of line so you can practice. Once you have made 4 perfect flares, move on to the real deal and take care of business.

To be completely honest I have been cutting every corner without sacraficing safety to get it done by April and that means buying generic lines and bending them myself, and not getting a flarring tool. They do kinda bother me and if everything goes according to plan to get it on the road for super celebration then this summer I can go back and cut them down, if I don't find a way to do it before then. If it wasn't Christmas break I would talk to the instructors at school to see if we have one there I could borrow, that will be an option mid Jan. But until then mostly want to finally get the axle back under the bronco so I can focus on pulling the shift linkage and have the work area to begin tapping off and painting the engine as lime green won't cut it. Yes I did splurge on paint but lime green is just a no go and so is having a that axle look like it did when I pulled it out.

I guess if once school starts up I can borrow a decent one I will crawl under it and fix it, and there won't be any fluid flowing through the lines any time soon so that won't be a huge issue either for a while.

Ok maybe in a few weeks I will finally be able to get back on this project, as we finally closed on the house today and tomorrow the Bronco will be getting moved to its new home. In anticipation of this closing finally happening I put the rear axle back under it so I could pull it on the trailer. Oh and I did get to buy a winch witch I mounted on my trailer so I didn't have to pull the bronco on the trailer with the come a long. Will try to have pics soon but will be hectic next couple weeks and my light at the end of the tunnel is the Spring ride.
