Front 60 Install Begins!
#11
No cool pics to post, but I've been working on it. I've got the motor stripped, cleaned, and re-painted (used the New Ford Gray). I've got to borrow 744x4's cherry picker and get it mounted on the frame - got the West Coast Broncos motor mounts during the Classic Broncos mass buy deal. After that I'll get the tranny & t-case cleaned, painted and mounted.

Carl - I got a set of 39.5 Iroks. I debated b/w 39.5 and 42's, but decided on the 39.5's. I bought them yesterday at the 4WheelParts Truck Fest in Atlanta, but have to pick them up in Charlotte sometime.

Chuck - I talked to Crawlin69 from N. Cali about how he set his front 60 up using the same Cage weld on brackets. I think he has talked me into cutting the inner C's and rotating them to achieve the best of both worlds - caster and pinion angle. Sounds like a PITA, but we'll see.

I'm waiting on Jack's (Ironbender) rear link system to be completed and will probably end up using that in the rear (depending on cost compared to Poly's kit).

He's a great guy, he talked with me a while back and offered his axles to me..but I already bought what I had.

I will hate you, if you get Jack's system on that rig...nah not really-more jealous than hate

Not much progress, but an update.

I've got the tranny and t-case cleaned, painted, and mounted on the frame. Last night I put a new high volume oil pump in and cleaned the oil pan up (got it primed). I'll paint the pan tonight so I can put it back on this weekend. Once I get the motor right side up again I'll be able to put all of my accessories on (already cleaned and painted) and mate it to the tranny (hopefully this weekend). Once I get the motor and tranny bolted together I'll take some pics and post!

Next step - go ahead and put my front 60 together since I have my tires now. I need to mount the H1 wheels and inserts on the tires and then I'll at least have a 1/2 rolling chassis.

I'm envious as well. Looks like it's coming along nicely. Looking forward to more progress pics. Ironically, I just got finished reading this post http://www.norcalbroncos.com/forum/showt...php?t=2480.

I have called bronco graveyard two days in a row and asked about the dana 60 wedges. I was told both times the wedges are for a dana 44 and you have to grind them.
Robert- are the cage arm brackets, that weld to the axle, solid or are they tubing that has been cut?

Bryan - The cage brakets are a plate bracket that they have welded together with the correct diameter cut into it. They are very stout. Check out this link to see a pic.

Also, I have some of the axles wedges from Duff's that I never used since I got the Cage weld on bracket. I have not checked them, but have been told that they will fit a 60 - I'll check tomorrow. I got them at the Grand Opening so I could save on shipping Big Grin

Brian - I checked and the Duff wedges DO fit the 60 perfectly! I have no use for them. They are brand new in the box.

Got some more work done on it yesterday. I go the cleaned up 5.0 on the frame and mated to the C4. I've got to decide what alternator to run and what I'm going to do for the sag. pump bracket now.

I also got my knuckles installed on the front end - waiting on the high steer arms now to make my tie-rods.

The pic of the tires only has 3 of the 4 b/c I had pulled the 4th out to start mounting. They are 39.5 Iroks. All 4 are mounted now on the H1 wheels.
