URE March 19-20, 2016 Work Day
#31
Well after getting home, unloaded, put away and cleaned up and a quick nap I figured a short report was in order.

The biggest job they wanted to accomplish was to install guardrail on Daniel non of us really wanted to install any of it, and
apparently most there didn't want to either, so we ended up installing guardrail.

We were probably the smallest crew there, Sat. 5 of us managed to get approx 240' installed, that included digging the holes, and setting posts and rails. We also moved a couple of big trees they cut down out of the trail. It was a fairly hard day. Today we enlisted another group of 5 and quickly got the rest of the railing up, they bailed after that and we were headed to another area to help out when the FS asked us to install some on a new (unplanned) place. Spent a bunch of time waiting around twiddling thumbs waiting for official approval to dig the holes in the new area, which was a total pain. Once approved, we got that rail up and called it a day. I didn't get any pics, but Clay's GF did so he should be able to post a few later.

This heavy work weekend should take care of bulk of the work needed this year, the rest of the work days will be mostly trash, and simpler maintenance.

CB members there were myself, Charles/Bart, Clay and Emily, Larry - we sure made this club look good this weekend.

Thanks for the write-up Nick.

FOU (friends of URE) held a raffle both days for donated items from vendors like Warn, Interco, ****s Sporting, Rock Auto and lots more. I think each of us in the group won something. Nick ended up winning a 4 hour off-road training class up in Asheville!

This morning I overheard Snappy (with FOU) commenting to someone about the dedication of the Bronco group. Terry (USFS ranger) also commented late in the day that she liked our use of the logs from the stream crossings as guard rail and she said that they will probably do more like that on some other trails.

Thank you to all who volunteer in helping keep these trails open. At the FOU meeting held on Sat night, it was expressed that without the work done over the weekend, Daniel would have been closed!

Big thank you to Larry, who got us all into doing guard rail even though we didn't want to! We got A LOT done!

Great job fellas. Y'all do more work than 99 percent of folks that use that park. Thank you!

Can you provide details about what was done to Daniel rocky hill climb and switchbacks / waterfall area?

It great time this weekend very productive and informative. Daniel mainly got guarding put up to protect the ark sights around the trail. I'm not a 100% sure on the ledges i believe it was just more drainage fix. Here are the pics that I have [Image: bccdf5fb5c5953dd0db67d2c0523e5ab.jpg]

Thanks! It is actually kinda fun if you can believe that.

Chuzie, we didn't spend any time in those areas but I don't think any major changes are planned on the front side for now.

Edit- sorry, Clay beat me to it.

SPECIAL REQUEST!!!!!
Hi Everyone! Most people know that Darin and I enjoy wheeling with anyone who is in it for the fun and skill of it. We are both members of many of your clubs. Doesn't matter if you are fellow Cruiser owners, Jeeps, Dodge, etc. We love the sport and the great social aspect. Darin leaves Monday for 6 months to join the Aravaipa Hotshots for Wildland Fire season. After season, I've blessed off on a 3 week wheeling adventure out west with friends. He would like to fill his cargo windows with club and association decals from our areas. It's short notice, but if you can send one our way this week, it would be appreciated. You can mail them to post box 1632 Raeford NC 28376 or to me at the Uwharrie District Ranger Office. Thank you!
