Between a cell phone and a CB, you should be set. I bought the $40 Cobra CB from wallyworld and an SWR tuner from radioshack and I can regularly get 3-5 miles out of mine.
Tow points should be top priority. It makes it much easier for people to pull you out if you have good tow points front and rear.

Where are you typically putting the tow points, are you welding them on or welding and bolting?

You don't have to use those specific hooks. I just meant it as a general reference artical. I would assume that you could use the same process with even the cheap AutoZone/Advance/NAPA tow hooks...

True... Those seem to be pretty stout mounts. I will have to see what Autozone, etc. Have available.

I pulled mine off a 2006 F150, I just removed the air dam and bolted them to the frame.
Make sure to use Grade 8 hardware.

I am new to the area I am at so I will have to look up some junk yards in the phone book and see about getting some from there. Do you remember what you paid for them?
