Ford 7.3L Powerstroke has a great PS cooler - $20 new at the parts store too.

So how much is amsoil hydraulic tractor transmission fluid? I can either do that or pay $20.00 for the cooler. Is that fluid compatable with a Explorer pump and a bronco box?

Good options for PS how about oil?

I dislike coolers for that very reason however, I am attempting to remove any possibility of ever overheating (or getting remotely hot) on the trail again. I was not happy at URE because I had to stop 3 or 4 times because I was at 230.

I am confident that the addition of a shroud will fix my issue but I think a cooler on the engine oil will be extra insurance until I find a shroud to fit.

The only reason I want a cooler on the PS is to prolong the life of the pump since I am going to be installing a ram assist and hydroboost in the near future. I am going to ask my Explorer folks or even call Amsoil to get a definitive answer on the application but I think I will go that route.

I have oil and ps coolers. I love them, but i would pony up the extra for good ones. Especialy the engin oil, if it doesnt have good hoses and conections(IE regular hose clamps) you could blow your motor. I have never used the amsoil in ps systems, but for your aplication it may be just what you need. Just keep in mind the ford boxes are ment for atf, they can leak if the clear ps fluid is used.
The coolers by them selves are a good start, mine dropped my engine temp 20 degrees. They can go even farther with 10" electric fans on them (thats whats on my tranny coolers).
A shroud is a good start too, but an electric aux fan is nice too. I have a 17" elctric fan, and a fixed blade fan. I would also recomend a fan guard.
Something else to consider is the thermistat you use, I have a 160 in mine(so I can get some heat in the winter) and I rarely go over 200. Thats with a howe radiator. Your coolent mixture can also make some diffrence. I run a 65/35 mix in mine(wont freeze where I live) but helps keep it cool. Water wetter is also good.
