2WD Conversion ???

I already searched, and yes, I saw the Dec '93 article in
Sport Truck..

Does anyone know if there are any posts on converting a
FSB to 2WD and lowering? Lowered, not slammed..
Has anyone on this board done one?

I need to know what leafs were used... what probs
they ran into.. etc etc

There was an article I saw a few years ago of someone that built a pre-runner bronco that I thought was two-wheel drive, but it could have been a very flexible TTB, I can't remember.

never saw the point in lowering a truck, but the 2wd bronco idea isnt new. big oly was 2wd and is just awsom. To make a full size bronco 2wd just get the front clip (frame) from a f150 1/2 2wd pu. From there you can cut and weld all the brackets right on. Then the rest is up to you, lift it or drop. I always wanted to do an eb with a trophy truck front end.

Front end is about ready.. have most of the parts from a donor '94 Lightning
for my '94 FSB..
the rear is where I'm having questions.. FSB leafs are 3", F150 are 2-1/2"..
have the brackets, lowering shackles and bushings.. need the proper 2-1/2" leafs..

3" Code D = 6-1/2" arch, 1650# load, 230# rate, 25" SE - 31" LE
need the spring code for 2-1/2"'s from a 2WD F150 that are comparable or
even an inch lower..

Several reasons

1) If done properly you get better handling. Sure, it might not be sport car handling, but some people need the utility purpose of a truck but not the off road capabilities. If the truck is never going to leave the street, it makes more sense then the guy who jacks his up, puts big mud tires, and never goes off the road (not that there is anything wrong with that either).

2) Easier to load and unload. My old roommate lowered his s10 slightly.
Sure was a lot easier to load and unload motorcycle then my f150 4x4 was.

3) You just plain like the looks of a lowered truck. I used to be in the car business years ago and we had a saying "There is a butt for every seat". Basically, different strokes for different folks.

Personally, I agree that starting off with a 4x4 is not ideal. However, considering the Bronco is cool for other reasons then its 4x4 capabilities and it only came in 4x4, I can definitely understand choosing it as a platform.
