how do you tell the difference between a 302 and 289 block thanks.

As far as I know the blocks are the same. The only difference between the two was the stroke length. It should have a casting number under the intake as to which it was from the factory. You can make a 289 a 302 by changing the crank and vice versa. You can also make either a 347 by doing the same thing plus .030" over, I think.

Okay so I looked all over the block and all I could find were these numbers
DI0-8015-AA. On the heads were the numbers 351. Any help? Thanks

The casting on the block designates it as a 302 block. Most all the 289's were C6-C5 and prior castings. The 302 began with the C8 casting and progressed.

Probably. Just means its been rebuilt once already. I ran that combination on a previous engine.
