ECORS Class A race rig build
#1
Ok, so I guess we are going to pull the trigger. ECORS is the East Coast Off Road Series. Pretty much a combination of wide open racing and rock crawling mixed into 1 event. The main objective is to complete the given # of laps within a given time. The winner is the one who finishes in the least amount of time (of course). The class A rigs are most like a stock vehicle. Plans are for a 302 EFI motor, C-4, 3.5" lift, full cage, and 33" tires. I will post some pics later on what we will be working with. Be patient- there isn't a whole lot to see yet!!! As for now, going back down to the garage to do some more wrenching. If chuck's big surprise is that he is building one as well, we just beat you to the punch... I think it is that he is moving to Sugar Tit, SC.

Good Luck with the build.

Watch out talking about Sugar Tit - I'm only 10 minutes down the road and pass through every day on the way to work!

Ok, pic time.

I got some solenoids for my Warn 8k winch. Got it torn apart, chased down a few burnt wires, and put 2 new solenoids in it. Works like a charm now.

Friday I scored a set of 33" TSL's with between 1/2 and 3/4 tread in exchange for a used soft top for a HEEP.

Here is my junkyard donor engine. It looks like we have the green light to run EFI, so we will be using all that. The truck I pulled it from was hit in the side and practically bent in a U. Took the trans and wiring harness as well, but I think I will end up going with the original C-4 and a EEC-IV computer setup like found in the 89-93 MAF Mustangs.

Next up we have the tub and 1/2 of the frame. I am going to have to piece a frame together. Don't have a good one to start with at this point. Some of you might remember where this tub came from.

It will be getting a full 1.75x.120 wall DOM roll cage tied into some 2x4 rock skis which will be tied directly into the frame rails.

Along with all that it will be getting the 77 HD rear axle. The rules for the new year are not set in stone right yet. As of now, only 1 locker is permitted. I have a trac-lock posi 3rd for the rear and am thinking that the locker would be best for the front. Any thoughts on that from the peanut galley? Planning 4.10 gears with the 33" tires, along with the C-4 auto and D-20 setup.

Here is the rear:

Next we have the 74 parts rig that I picked up last weekend from Wilmington. Had never been out that way before. Not as far as the OBX, but it was still a ride. I wanted this for the auto trans, power steering box (for a spare) and a few other parts. A HUGE thanks to Clay and John for the help with tearing it apart.

Someone had plumbed the fuel line into the vents of both carb bowls. Needless to say, that would not have worked so well...We did get it running and it sounded good but shut it down when a mysterious glow appeared from under the vehicle. Compression numbers were all decent.

I had never seen so much mud and crud on a vehicle. We were discussing someone might have been trying to compost it along with their organic matter... You could probably plant a garden in my garage right now. Fortunately the garage is detached, or I would never have heard the end of it... The new (to me) plasma cutter is a neat tool, or perhaps toy, as well and came in handy with several stubborn fastners.

All that for pretty much just this... All covered in slime. The PO said it was a C-5, but it looks like that is not so.

I can't imagine the hardship this truck went through. The one shock is flattened, one rear spring is broken and had even punched a hole through the rear floor section, one radius arm mount is bent, and a ton more... Despite all that, it still has a lot of good usable parts on it that will be thrashed on some more by us.

That is all for tonight. This is my first actual submitted build thread anywhere. Hopefully it is easy enough to follow along with. Looking to have a good bit of fun with the build, even if it is freezing in the garage...

they look too modern. we need to find some that are old school. it would be awesome to find those chromed out goggles as well. i can't rock the scarf though... my man card prohibits that. gotta find some poppy red, white and some flat black for the hood.

I did get the engine and trans out today. That is about all I got done.
