306 EFI build
#41
Oops. Guess my memory is not so good. Looks like I forgot to mention that in my build. I tapped the lower intake with a pipe thread tap and used a plug to block the EGR port. It is direclty in the middle of all the lower intake runners and will be a nasty carbon black color. You can see the port right above the distributor cap in this picture. It is smaller than all the other intake ports.

I also did that to a Cobra manifold on one of my 5.0's. I also used the block offs that came with the FelPro gasket set between the head and manifold. I'm sure it helps lower intake air temps, but it really helps when icing the manifold down between rounds at the track.

i dont need to drill/tap any spots...im gonna run the heater tube on the intake and marc had the lower intake drill/tapped for a sensor already. i just need to fix the upper that hits valve cover.

on a side note...

hit LKQ today...got a explorer serp system. $155 out the door, plus i get $52 core changes back when i return a few things.

the motor i was removing parts from had GT40 heads(the right ones)...but ive been sick for 3 days(today being the worst) so i couldnt get them.

heres a few pics, got the serpentine system cleaned up and painted. got most of it mounted to the 306. had to do some grinding on the alum bracket for the driver side on the compressor mount(it was touching the alum valve cover). i think i will have to do some more grinding to clear the TFI module on the distributor...atleast thats what ive read before.

got the gt40 intake clearance issue fixed. i was able to twist and pull the 90degree fitting out that was hitting the valve cover. it turns out, it was even the right size to tap it for 1/8 NPT. so now that and the other one were swapped out for pipe plugs which gives me enough room for the valve cover.:toothy12:

got the upper mounted to check for any other issues, also cleaned up the 5.0 plate for the top.:beer:Confusedmokin:

heres some pics:xyxthumbs:

so far things are looking good. got the new serp belt on...i like it! now, trying to decide if i wanna run the clutch fan or chance my luck running the taraus fan???

im going with a stock 195 Tstat...but i worry bout being dependant on a electrical fan. especially if im driving 5 hrs, wheel a weekend, then drive back...plus the fan it from a used car-not like its new or i can go to local auto store and get another just like it.

what are yalls thoughts?

You will have to trim for the TFI - or at least I did.

Also, when you set the motor in be careful of that bottom outside pulley on the pass. side. It is just a hair from hitting the cross-member.
