NC did away with the emissions (sniffer) and went to OBD testing. Not all counties have the OBD yet either. Only gas powered vehicles with OBD require the OBD testing. BUT they are still required to do visual inspections when they do the safety inspection for all vehicles. If your truck came with cats they are supposed to be there otherwise the inspector can fail your truck.
I said all that just to say this; if you yank the cats off be careful where you have the truck inspected. Some are sticklers and you'll never get it passed. Some do a cursory inspection and don't even check the exhaust or under the hood. And then some just write out a sticker and collect their $9.10.
