Yeah the bronco is actually hers I am only pretending it is mine. She loves getting bounced around and running over big hills and all the fun stuff. When we were playing around we went down a hill that was maybe a 30 degree angle at best and she loved it.. I am sure she could handle more as long as the truck can.

I am new to the area I am at so I will have to look up some junk yards in the phone book and see about getting some from there. Do you remember what you paid for them?

I got them for $20...I didn't take the hardware as I didn't feel like pulling the bumper off to get the nut plates.

You can get them on ebay fairly reasonably as well. I would try to go for the ones found on a 97-03 F-series/expedition as they are cast while the 04 and up are bent rod welded to the mounting plate.

In retrospect I should have waited, but I was impatient and went with what I found. I don't have any concerns breaking them for my purposes, but if I were frame deep in mud I would want the cast ones.

Where are you typically putting the tow points, are you welding them on or welding and bolting?

Hey bud, I am just down the road from you in Huntersville. I have an 86 Bronco I Wish there where some areas around here to play in but there are not that I know of except one. There is one power-line off MCcoy road that has no signs and comes out in the business park. I know that does not make it legal but a lot of people use it. If I use it it is usually raining and I hit it and leave. lol
I run a Cobra 29 Limited. It is a good CB. It has the SWR meter and calibration on board. Works real good. Mine was my dad's before he retired as a truck driver so it has been worked on a bit.
I can usually get out up to about 10 miles on the road.
There is a pretty good Pull a part on N. Tryon St in Charlotte. Pay a $1 to get in. Parts are real reasonable to. Everything is separated by brands. I bet they have 300 Fords all line up.

For a tow hook, I would bolt it on. Unless you are a pro at welding, I wouldent just trust welds. I have seen tow hooks go threw a windshield. I prefer grade 8 bolts, fine thread.

cdeal: I will have to look around for that. Don't want to tick anyone off by running through there though. I will have to check the pull a part place out. I will absolutely want to get a set and put on there. I have a guy at work that has a '78 and he and I are going to tear mine down some weekend to see what we need to do to get her in top running shape before I do to much. I am excited about it. It should be fun to fix it up. I will be doing little bits at a time. We are getting ready move into our new house so that is going to take over alot of the finances for now. :banghead:

I know there is a place just across the line in SC that you can run ATV/Dirt Bikes at don't know if you can run Off-Road stuff like a Bronco or not. I will have to ask the guy that works for me. He runs he ATV down there all the time.

Broncomatt: Okay so here comes the idiot in me, where would I get Grade 8 bolts from? Sorry if that is really stupid. I am just getting into this stuff and trying to learn. I am a computer guy turned car enthusiest and am learning alot of this now. So you will have to forgive me.

I have a local NAPA store that carries a good selection of bolts and fasteners. Tractor Supply Co. and Fastenal are another couple that come to mind.

Here is a chart to show you how to tell what grade bolts you are looking at:
Most commonly found are probably grade 5 and 8.

Grade 8 bolts can be obtained from most hardware stores. I typically prefer ACE as their selection has always benn superior to that of Lowers and Home Depot however, I am pretty sure the latter will have the size you need. If they are not labeled just ask. You could always bolt it on AND weld as well. Pretty sure the frame will come off before the tow hooks.

I have always loved how the system labels the bolts with less stripes than the grade. Not confusing at all for someone who rarely uses it
