Engine build advice
#1
I need to get more power out of my new rock racer / tough truck. I want to leave the bottom end alone (stock) and up grade my cam and heads. This is a budget build so keep that in mind. I need good low end torgue but a good power band through acceleration. Maybe and RV cam or something. Need all the advice I can get. This is my first attempt at interior engine work. I will have the heads worked on by someone else.

buy some edelbrock performer aluminum heads. and a small cam shaft to match. ive tried those rv cams and i think they suck.

Aluminum heads may be a little pricey right now. I think I will call summit and talk to them to see what they recommend.

thanks

I got some major torque out of a 302 by honing out the "runners". Laid the intake and header gaskets on the head, scribed them out and started cutting. I opened them up so much I had to use Chevy 2.02 and1.64 valves in the heads, that 302 made some serious torque. I wish I still had it!!!

A cheap, simple way to start would be a cam and intake. These parts need to be matched together to get optimal power. The edlebroc performer series works well.
To get some more cheap power you can port match the heads to the intake, try some taller vavles. Roller rockers will keep it reliable. Headers are a must too.

I guess your talking about a 302? I would suggest swapping for a 351W. Then maybe even adding a 3.850" crank making a 393W. I have right at $1000 in my stroker. That included buying an after market distributor and an intake.

Theres no replacement for displacement!!!
