Ok then. Back to work it is. Here is what has been done lately.

I found some 5.75" ID tube at the local scrap yard in their resale area. I bought a foot of it for a couple bucks. Made 2 1" pieces to use for a home brewed lower coil bucket assembly, along with some 1/4" flat plate for the base. Cut the base material with the plasma cutter.

The bottom was fully welded in stages, so that it didn't get too hot.

Next I cut some angle iron to use for retainers.

Finally, using the drill press to drill the bolt holes.

The frame is a 76-77. It has the large track bar mount on it. I decided to cut it down and relocate the track bar higher on it to keep the torsion on the frame rail lower.

Next, I cut the lower track bar mounting bolt off of the axle and tacked the riser bracket in place.

In that pic you can see the steering linkage. It is a Stone Crusher unit. Had to drill the pitman arm. The knuckles were already drilled.

Still finishing up the track bar mount. Should have that done tomorrow.

I also rebuilt the transfer case and modified the shift rails. To do that, the WHOLE thing has to come apart. I decided to grind the front shift rail so that it could do a front dig with the rear in neutral, and not have the chance to get the gears crossed up between hi and lo range during the heat of battle. This is not my idea, but there is plenty of info on it out there. PM me if you want to know what I did.

Here is a pic of the modified shift rail. I did weld a little to the low detent to make it harder to inadvertently pop out of low.

The transfer case was a mixture of T and J shift parts. I used the J shift front output (it does not have a snap ring retainer and is easier to work on), J shift case, T shift low gears as they are a lower ratio, T shift rails, J shift output yokes, and C-4 auto input. It was a lot of work but will hopefully be worth it.

Finally all cleaned up and painted. I did a lot of cleaning before it was all torn apart. What a mess. The cleaning was the hardest and most time consuming part of the rebuild...

I did polish the shift rails as well to make shifting action smoother. Also used new retaining springs and balls.

I did have to cut the ends of the truss a bit and modify it to clear the inner U bolts. Forgot about them the first time around...

Oh yeah, I did mount the wheels and tires (obviously). The wheels that I got with the 33" TSL's were Heep 5x4.5 pattern. They are now on Allied beadlocks. Went pretty smoothly but was time consuming. Ended up doing 1 a day.

Thanks for the encouragement. There has been plenty of slugging it out.

IT ROLLS!!!!!!

Wish I could say it was finished, but hopefully sooner than later.

I welded the WH track bar riser to the front axle. I fabbed up some reinforcement for the upper track bar mount.

To clarify, the plates that I made were welded to the upper track bar mount. Basically just thickened what was there already. I did do a lot of welding on it as well.

Next was a quick coat of paint to keep it all clean. I can grind paint off and weld things on as needed but now I don't have to worry about anything rusting up. Almost all the hardware going into it is grade 8.

Now I am working on fabbing up some extreme motor mounts. I had the lower pieces but not the uppers. Making the uppers now out of flat plate and angle iron.
