After this past race, I decided that it is time for some more work...

The engine acted like it was not getting enough fuel- it popped on acceleration and didn't have full power at full throttle. I was hoping that the fuel filter was clogged with fuel cell foam. I took the filter off. There was some crap in it, but not a ton. When I blew the filter out I did notice a small amount of water in it. So, I drained the fuel cell some, as water is heavier than fuel, to hopefully remove any water that might have gotten in it from regular pressure washing.

Next I took the air cleaner off. It was time for a new one. Got a new K&N unit on the way with a pre-filter.

Next, I cleaned a PS box housing and drilled and tapped it. I have a Surplus Center cylinder that will be hooked up to it for a cheap ram assist. Hopefully that will help with the steering issues at high speed.

The nose saw some action. Had to bang the fender out. Still got to do some work on the grille and front bumper.

i had a similar issue with the engine popping and such...i found a wire(think it was purple) that went to the TFI and it had 12v when it wasnt suppose to. so we cut it (per thread on classic) and now it revs til cows come home...before it would spit and sputter round 3k or more. as a matter of fact, i think i swap fuel pumps thinking it was starving...but that wire fixed it

thanks for the heads up. i did some searching and it came up that a dirty MAF can cause this too. i took it off and it had a coating of dust all over the inside. the intake tube and TB did as well. i cleaned it all up and it runs GREAT! i guess the old girl had a sore throat. good to know for future reference.

Some times the fuel cell foam will deterioate and get in your filter. I have always removed the foam. I guess you may need it with the rought ride. Looks good though. Proud of you and proud of you representing. Us Ford people need to stick together and prove we can run with the bet of em.

thanks again guys. it appears that the foam is still ok. was the dirty MAF sensor.

The Bronco is now on the lift getting some new gears. It was spooled in the rear with a true track front (the rules only allow for 1 locker).

I am now going the exact opposite route. I have a posi rear center for the 9" on it's way as well as an OX locker for the front. Hopefully those will be here around the middle of next week. It is going from 4.10's to 4.88's in hopes of more off the line power. We don't run low range and hi range is a bit too high sometimes. The new gears will help, but I'm not sure it will be quite enough.

Got some more work done. Figured it was time for some pics. Got the axles torn apart, the steering linkage off, and the steering box off.

Parts are on order for the new posi rear center. Going to rebuild it with new parts. There is an OX locker for the front axle on its way, too!

For now, the steering box is the only thing I can work on. I've got another case that I drilled and tapped for the ram assist. Time to tear the old box down and build this one up.

I did find that one of the bolts in the True Trac carrier had loosened up some. Fortunately it didn't back out further and hit the inside of the diff housing. That could have caused some problems...

I have been tryn to save up for gears so we can swap my stock ones out. But just when I have some saved up a trip to the grocery store for diapers, juice, etc. seems to kill that thought!

Got a package in the mail today!

Bought a used OX locker for the D-44. I unpackaged it and disassembled it for inspection. This thing is built really well and was easy to work on. There are 4 large spider gears and one of the 2 side gears has a series of detents that line up with the locking collar, which is actuated by the cable.

I called OX to get torque specs for the 8 1/4" bolts that hold the one cap on the carrier. They were great to talk with and they told me to throw out the flat washers under those bolts and to install some locking washers along with loctite.

Got it all bolted back together and the ring gear on it, which also has new fixing bolts along with some loctite.
