Surfs rust in gas tank. HELP!!!
#1
I had to get another gas tank after I sprang a leak with mine after coming home from the meet and greet. I end up getting a free one from a guy in Charoltte. It is in great shape, but has some surfs rust inside of the tank. So what to doConfusedcratchhe: Do I just leave it alone? Or just try to get most of it out the best I can? I though that I would see what you guys would do. Let me know.

take a piece of heavy chain and shake it around inside the tank to get rid of the loose rust. Vacuum out all the pieces and with a filter on the pick-up and in the line somewhere you will probably be fine.

You can also pick up a sealer kit to seal up and coat the inside of the tank, which would be best, but they run $40-$50.

POR-15 makes a good kit, you can also get one at Eastwood.

Hey george I replaced my rear tank 6 months ago mine had surface rust as well. I just cleaned it best I could with a vac. I thought I would have to replace a few fuel filters but I'm still using the same one. hope that helps.

Ditto on what nick said - put a heavy chain in there and shake it around - vacuum it and do it again. Glad you were able to find one for free.

Chain, or nuts and bolts, vacume it out, and coat it with good tank sealer. The more care you take, the longer it will last.
