#1
i just got back from obx and had a few questions..

my drivers side hub has a rubbing sound sometimes, usually on harder surfaces? (manual locking?

my "4x4" light does'nt always come on when i push the button? is that a solonoid? (have to push it multiple times sometimes for it to come on)

can i use a 302 block out of an old 60's mustang? besides the flat top cam is there anything else that wont swap?

thanks,
john

everything on the older engine is 28oz. balance .
everything on your engine is 50oz. balance.
flywheel to the harmonic balancer. you can not mix those pieces up it will vibrate the bearings right out of your engine.

The hub sounds like the inner spindle bearing is bad, allowing the shaft to rub on the spindle. Your light not coming on is a multiple possibilty problem, from a bad switch to stuck motor on the transfercase. The most common problem is the motor on the tcase.
Mike nailed it all on the motor. What engine do you have in it now?

There are at least 3 different water pumps early passenger side inlet, late drivers side inlet, and drivers side inlet for serpentine belt drive. There is also 3 and 4 bolt balancers for the 28oz motors. Then each has timing marks for drivers or passenger side inlet pumps.

The early motor will also have the dip stick in the pan if it is rear sump or in the timing cover if it is front sump. Your '90 model should have the dipstick in the side of the block.

The '60's heads will not have the AIR port in the rear and may have adjustable valve train.

Thirty years of technology does lead to a few improvements. I have a guy local that does my machine work. He used to charge $750 for complete 302 rebuild.

i have a stock 302 right now, i am able to get a fully rebuilt short block for 100, but it is out of an old mustang, i was'nt sure how much different it was.I guess itll probably be easier to just buy another bronco 302 and rebuild that..?

If it is a stuck motor on the t-case try tapping it with a hammer - that sometimes frees them up.

John, one thing that I have noticed on my 4wd switch is that I have to be rolling for it to engage. When sitting still mine won't go in 4wd.I don't know if this is your case or not.
Stupid hurts when it catches up, and it WILL catch up!

Yes it will work. If there are any sensors that are different, you would want to use the ones from the 90.It's the same as when I installed an engine from a van in my 95.
