If your motor runs good and doesn't smoke or leak too badly I'd work on upgrading to disc brakes and power steering. No since in having a new 250 HP motor installed if you can't stop or steer safely. The 170 is a good motor if its in good shape along with your transmission. You get the most bang for your buck with those two upgrades, especially disc brakes.
What size tires are you running, do you plan to go bigger? Disc brakes can handle bigger tires but if you go 35s or bigger then a stronger power steering (ex. Sagi pump) unit may be more appropriate than a stock PS pump. Upgrade once, not twice! Unless you are Chuck or Charles!

I have the floor shifter conversion and 2 trannys. Not much else left. Dont have any air cleaners, there very hard to find. I did just see someone on Classic that was selling some (in CA, had more than one).
As for what to do to your rig it all comes down to what you want to do with your truck and how much it matters to you that it is original.
True original trucks are fetching top dollor right now. You can make changes to keep it close to stock or able to be returned to stock.
The stock 170ci motor is under powered and can be frustrating if trying to cruse highways and back roads. One thing I did that helped was to switch to 350 gears (OE for 6cyl is 410). That let it cruse around 60-65 with out realy reving the engine. There are a ton of mods out there, from engine upgrades, disk coversions, ps conversions. Check out our tech section, if you dont see it there just ask as we probably have it on paper or a web link.

I realized at the auto parts store today that its a 200ci. I guess in 1973 they changed from a 170 to 200. I'm going to keep the engine. It's plenty fast/strong enough for my needs.
I filled out one of those junk yard part request forms one the Internet last night looking for the air cleaner. Since then I have gotten about 30 emails saying then have one but to call them. I just have to find the time to call...
Matt I do have a question regarding the engine and the air cleaner. I replaced the spark plugs, points, distributor this morning. One of the plugs on cylinder 3 was loose enough that I was able to just unscrew it with my hand. The insulator was bad but was dry. Prior to changing the plugs I was getting quite a bit of black blow by smoke out of the rear valve on the valve cover. After changing the oil, plugs and flushing the radiator the blow by is white smoke and very minimal until I get in to higher RPM's. The valve currently just has a hose coming off that is hanging down the passenger side of the engine compartment. Does the stock air cleaner have a place for this hose to plug into? Is it standard for the oil cap to be replaced with a rebreather/pcv valve?
Thanks again guys

The hose that is hanging down is supposed to go to the air cleaner. The pvc hose draws engine vacume threw the engine. It does tend to drop at higher rpms so that may be why your engine smokes some. In general the 6cyl valve cover gasket tends to dry up and leak. It would be worth taking the time to fix that.
Try and smell the smoke, if its white that would normaly be coolant burning, blue is oil burning and black is unburned fuel. Its easy to mistake blue for white. If its blue it should have that oily smell, coolant will have the sweet smell.
The 200 ci engine is the same block and head as the 170, just more bore. Check out fordsix.com for more ideas and facts about your engine.

JBass, I spoke with Mike D for a lil while tonight, glad you were able to touch base with him. He seems like a real nice fella on the phone.
SC74, Mike D has those frame horns you were looking for. He says he has plenty of'em!

Great guy... Unbelievable breadth of bronco knowledge. Very lucky to have him so close and so willing to help me figure this all out. I'm already hooked and he's only made the fire worse. The two of us are going to be dangerous! He has tons of parts... Has five broncos at his house now... His daily driver is ridiculous. Thanks for making me aware he existed less than 10 miles away from my house.
