URE workday- June 15!!!
#11
No worries- I hope you are ok Jay!!

We had 5 of us there which was a good turn out for CB4x4. Thanks to Tony, Rhett, Nick H, and Clay. We did get help from some others as well to do the bridge repair. There were lots of downed trees on the way out there. Must have been some wicked storms. The rains did not spare our bridges. We only got one fixed but it was badly damaged. Pics and info are here:

Good on you guys for stepping up. We really need to suck it up and step aside since we have such a hard time getting participation on a regular basis. I would prefer to do it now before things get worse and we place a black eye on the club

We technically haven't committed to adopting the trail this year, unless someone has filled out the US forest service form. That said, I'd still like to see us volunteering regularly to trail maint. CORE, who has done Dutch John as well has been about like us or worse in maintaining it. It seems there just isn't enough help honestly. I can discuss all this with snappy (he is the liaison trail coordinator) to see what he thinks.

The bridge looks great! Nice work y'all! It seems as though until some other club steps up and wants to adopt the trail we will continue to unofficially lay claim to it. I wish I able to lend a hand this summer but I'm stuck working up here in New York City until August or later. At this point I'm just hoping I'll make the November run.

good job guys! we really appreciate what yall have done. are you saying we have to put in each year to be in charge of a trail? i thought once we were accepted its til we give it up or worst its taken from us?

i wouldnt want to give it up...it means a lot to me. but i know 5 or 6 out of 600 or more can not do it alone.

I read that they started annual 'sign ups' for trail adoption complete with official looking forms, etc. I downloaded them but don't remember if I posted them here or not. I didn't fill one out but have said to the 'Friends of URE' that we had adopted it in the past and that I'd commit to 4 work days this year. So far, I and a few others have represented CB4x4 3 days. One more for the year won't be a problem but keeping the trail maintained definitely is. I have been in regular contact with CORE who also had adopted it but they are about like us for volunteers. I might attend one of their meetings to discuss their plans or continued efforts. We just need more help. 2 more bridges need fixing among other things. Please help if you can. It is going to be hot in July, but I'd like to get the bridges fixed. One should go pretty quick. I might sneak up there one weekend to snap a pic or 2 of work needed.

I want to thank all of you for your time and effort. We started this to help keep our trails open and to boost our club presence. It is much harder for me to make these events now that I have moved so far south, but that doesn't mean I don't think of these events. It means allot to the club and to the rest of us who cant make these events that there are those who can step up and represent.
Special thanks to Bart (Charles) for all of your help in keeping this going.
Any weekend that some of our group head to URE please mention to the campground host that you would like to spend one day working on trail clean up. This counts for the club and shows that were there for the trails.
Thank you all.
