Broncitis Rat Rod build thread.

When I went and visited Duff's facility last summer I wasn't super impressed actually saw more area as a parking garage for broncos then I did any sort of shop to work on things, and when I was asking questions about suspension and build ideas I felt like I was being sold a lot higher lvl lifts and shocks then my plan at the time was describing. I have looked at thier prices and about the only thing I can find reasonably priced that a lot of people still like is thier shocks, actually thinking of ordering a set at least for the rear soon, everything else is way over priced compared to the other vendors, granted I didn't go as far as calculating shipping but most of the stuff I have been looking at lately have been smalls so don't imagine shipping would be horrible on them. Just my 2 cents

I bent a piece of 1 inch tubing to fashion a relay/light mount guard for the front winch bumper. I also bought Umbrella seals and borrowed the tools to change them out. Its sposed to rain the next 2 or 3 days so maybe I will get them put on since I will not be in the woods.

Ok so heres the deal with the play that developed in my steering. Where the steering sector is bolted to the frame it is flexing when the steering is manipulated.
What is the common repair for this condition. I was thinking I might box the sides of the frame with some 1/4 inch flat stock. Open to input if there is a better way. Thanks in advance.

The flex is in where the box is attached/bolted to the frame.

If the bolts are tight it is the box. If u can tighten bolts, your frame is pancaking. Buy a reinforcement kit that provides spacer inserts and a backing plate. This is a common problem.

I have some 1/4x4 flat bar laying around and all the tools I need to fashion a reinforcement plate for the inside and out of the frame. The bolts are tight so the frame must be either cracked or flexing or some of both. Note it is not broke so bad that it is falling off but you can easily see movement when the steering is turned. All the steering linkages seem tight with no play in them.

Broke mine at the 2014 NOVRUN, got the BC bronco frame repair kit and fixed it up. We had a good campfire discussion of this issue this year.

check it out.....

The spacers in the frame fail, spacers could be fabed with pipe. I ground the holes out until the pipe just slid into the frame, champherd and welded the ends, ground them smooth with the frame and then welded the plate to the side of the frame. Look it over good, I found a few cracks in my frame that were not very easily seen.
