The budget build
#1
As many of you have listened to me whine about the rusty condition of my EB, but I'm not willing to start swapping over parts to the new body yet. The body work isnt ready and I would be with out a wheeling rig for some time.
My solution, turn the yard truck into a wheeler ( hey it was either use that or the lawn mower :hystericalSmile.
So now I'm gonna do the budget build. I'm starting with this 78 bronco that I got in trade for some scrap material(no title). Since then I've changed the inside door pannel$50, and the oil pan$50( had a car pan), new fuel pump $20.
Its not all bad, the body is hardly rusty, 351M/c6/205 all work ok, both axles are open. The bad, only rear brakes work(stuck prop vavle), blown sway bar link, crappy 2bbl, and open diffs.
Some scrounging and I have a prop valve for $20, recently I scored an edelbrock intake for $100, and got a 4bbl carb ($20) for it at the meet n greet. I have been sitting on a mini spool for something, this will do. So far my cash investment is around $300. For now I'm stuck on 33's (my spare set, or the ones on my eb), but with the spool rear and the healthy engine it should do fairly well off road. Stay tunned for some build pics....

Thanks guys, got it in the shop last night. I'll start with the prop valve, fixing the brakes. Adjust the tranny bands, yank out the 9" center section. I'll take that with me to work and install the mini spool. Chuck has donated some seats to make it comfortable to wheel.
May even patch the one hole in the floor while its in there.
The last things I need right now is intake gaskets, carb rebuild kit.
I would eventuly like to put it on 35"s, but for now I'll run it like it is.
I'll enjoy my eb for the rest of this summer, but the full size should also be ready soon. Progress pics to come.

You plan on wheeling the fullsize while your EB under goes the body swap?

Yes, once the summer is over I hope to be starting on the body work on the new tub. In the mean time I will probably want to start pulling the cage to fit it in the new body. So I wont be wheeling it.
I dont have the money to realy make the full size anything hard core. But with 33"s or 35"s, spool rear, decent carb build, and a winch behind the front bumper I think the truck will do well.I'm going for the sleeper look. It will have to be trailered to most events since I cant tag it. Its primary use was supposed to be a yard truck, but if I build it right it should be a capable trail rig. Some day I may try and get a title for it.
Right now I Just need to get some time to work on it :banghead:

Man...that's a slick little set up you got goin on for only $300. Pretty jealous actually, I had to shell out $2400 for mine, and have another $1000 into it...and another $2000 in go fast parts waiting to go in. I envy you guys who find all the deals.

While I dont realy have time to be messing with my broncos right now I did find the time to get the 4bbl intake and carb on. I spent $20 on a used carb, and another $20 for the rebuild kit. Modifide the carb simular to the truck avengers. Another $125 on the intake and gaskets. Resealed the vavle covers while I was in there.
This is not the nicest looking work, its truely the budget build. As much of this build as I can will be done with left over parts and scrap peices.
Next is the master cyl, propvalve and bleed the brakes. I also have a mini spool to stick in when I get the time. Been planing a spare tire/ jerry can mount for the rear. May even cut the top some for a targa style top, well see.
I'm hoping to bring it too work since we've still been slow too finish up that stuff. Right now I just need it moving under its own power.
Enjoy the progress pics.
