Stock 66 interior rebuild thread

I thought I would start a thread of my winter project on the 66 stocker.
I have read with interest all the great build threads of these awesome off
road rigs so this may be a little mundane but I find it a real challenge to
research the original '66 broncos and try to take mine back to stock form.

My plan this winter is to restore the interior back to factory specs.
Unfortunately I don't have the money to paint the whole bronco right now
but it's a driver and my kids love to ride in it. I can't see sinking thousands
into paint and then have to worry about it everytime I take it out. Besides
all the interior paint is original and I kinda like it that way.

Like most of us I don't have a bunch of cash and with a busy family, not a lot
of time so I'll do what I can with what I have.
So here we go'

So here's where I'm at so far ...

The dash is out and ready for sand blasting. What's kinda cool is I found a
"PAINT OK #2" stamp on the bottom of the dash under the speedo hole.
Now I have to figure out how to sand blast around it and paint the dash
without destroying it. I might just scotch brite the bad spots on the dash,
scuff the original paint, mask off the stamp and re-shoot it. Any advice from
the paint gurus here would be welcome. The rest of the bits and pieces will
be blasted and painted.

One note here ... the interior color for the '66 was Bronco Gray Poly. It's a
'66 only color and thankfully still available.

Although it looks like a mess, the wiring is in really good shape.
No cut up wires or hack jobs. Still all original. I'll clean up the wires and get
things reorganized, replace all the bulbs and the flashers and I'll be good to go here.

Sorry I didn't get any photos of the rebuild of the speedo and vacuum wiper motors. Here's a couple of the final results.

The speedo came apart easy but it was a bit tricky to get the odometer
set back to 000000, not hard, it just takes patience which I am sometimes
short of. I cleaned everything up, painted the needles on all the gages and
installed a new voltage regulator.

'66 note ... the speedo is a '66 only. If you look close the hash marks are
above the numbers. Later years have them below the numbers.

The vacuum wiper motors are interesting little machines. They have a wiper
plate inside complete with a leather sealing surface. They have a layer of
grease inside to help seal it. I completely disassembled them, cleaned the 43
year old grease out and soaked the leather seals in oil to swell them back up.
I regreased everything with multi-purpose bearing grease, carefully re-used
the old gaskets and reassembled everything.

They work great, I think. I tried to talk my wife into sucking on them but she turned me down so I did it. :xyxthumbs: They worked like a charm.

There's a lot to be said for going back with all original and stock. Very nice - look forward to seeing more.
