My 76 LUBR Build in SC
Sorry I didn't catch up with ya this weekend. Trucks are hard to come by these days. Hope to have a trailer this coming weekend so then I can use my wife's Pilot.

Not a problem. Maybe by the time you get here I will have seats bolted down and can take you for a ride.

Did you measure the ohm readings at the tank and at the gauge? It is easy to do and takes the guesswork out of it. Do you happen to know the ohm range for the SunPro gauge? Ford is different from Chebby, etc. Like everything else, nothing is standard...

Charles, dont know ohm range for Sun Pro gauge? Ive had this gauge for years and never took out of box. I assumed all gauges are the same. Do I need to disconnect wires from tank to chk its ohm reading? Electricity is not my thing.

Charles,

Did a reading today, keep in mind all the wires were hooked up and key not in the ignition. The tank read 28-30 and at the new gauge it read 48-50. What should I do next? Get a new gauge? which one would you suggest? Like to replace the OEM gas guage if I can.

From info Chuck posted on classic:

I guess this is the best place to post the results of the new sender.
I compared a new stock(NS) sender, a new aftermarket(NA) sender and my new one(BC)
All empty to full at full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and empty and random selected from my shelf.
The NS= 75.7, 59.8, 26.2, 19.4, 9.6
The NA= 87.1, 50.0, 37.1, 22.0,10.2
The BC= 77.0, 60.0, 26.5, 18.6, 9.3

So, based on that, a reading of 28 at the tank is a little more than 1/2 full. 48 ohms at the gauge should read about 5/8 full, with a working gauge. If I were you, I'd contact the guy that refurbishes the stock speedo clusters (classychassisrestoration.com) and ask him how much for a working fuel gauge. I haven't been able to find any new ones anywhere.

As an aside, the ohm readings should be the same at the tank and at the gauge. The 13 ohm difference could just be a grounding error or possibly wire resistance. If I were you, I'd check from one end of the wire to the other and see if there is any resistance measured through it. If there is, I'd replace it with a new wire. There should be a 0 ohm reading in the wire. Hope that helps. You are on the right track. Do all your other gauges work?

I pretty much replaced all the other gauges bc I didn't feel comfy with their readings. I've seen that guys work on classic and his stuff looks great. When I buy your old cluster gauge ill send it off to him and have new Autometer gauges installed! Wink
Tomorrow I will disconnect the wires from back of new fuel gauge and see what it is reading. Hopefully it should read around 28.

Robbed the fuel gauge off the 77 F150 this afternoon and hooked it up to my tank and it works very well. Looked at the 77s ps box and it looks nothing like my F100 box. Will post pics later.

Huh? I'm lost on the ps box comment. The F100 box will be a lot different than a stock EB box. What are you thinking of doing?
